Welcome Mike Let’s Begin

Mike Michalowicz
[Euvy] I know you have started up million dollar technology businesses , Could you tell us how you went from sleeping at conference rooms at one stage to becoming a millionaire?
[Mike] It really boiled down to a change in beliefs. At first my focus was all about survival, which truly is a great motivator… in the short term. But overtime, survival becomes draining, so it becomes about living your passion, pursuing your dream. Once I got on that track… my business started taking off.
[Euvy] Could you please tell us about your first business venture? And I also know you have sold that company and started a new one the very next day and sold that to a fortune 500. What was that like?
[Mike] My first business venture was called Olmec Systems. It still exists today. The company installed computer systems for small businesses. Olmec went big when we started to focus on hedge fund exclusively, and today is the biggest provider in the niche.
Selling to a Fortune 500 was, at the time, a dream come true. I always wanted to sell my business to a large public company. While exhilarating and financially rewarding, the nature of the business turns over night once you are acquired. So, believe it or not, it is a double edged sword.
[Euvy] What exactly are you doing right now(projects , new products)?
[Mike] This exact moment I am writing this. I kid. I kid. Most of my time is focused on speaking to groups, and spreading the word on the book.
[Euvy] To the readers that are not familiar with your Current company Obsidian Launch , Can you tell us about that and what do people need to do if they are interested in it?
[Mike] Obsidian is a venture partnering firm. We partner in the launch of start-ups in return for a share of the profits. We are currently revamping Obsidian and within 6

months expect to be open to new ventures.
[Euvy] To be successful in a Business Venture you need to have a plan , how important is a business plan and did you have an in depth plan when you started out? Briefly what was key in it?
[Mike] Actually, you need a vision. There are so many variables in building a business that no one can adequately plan for it. Instead, the key is to have clarity of the end game or the big success points. Then dynamically adjust to the immediate challenges and opportunities to get to the vision.
[Euvy] What was key in your success and what motivated you to become the toilet paper entrepreneur? How did the name come about?
[Mike] The key to my success has been constantly pushing toward a vision, come hell or high water. Becoming an advocate for entrepreneurs has always been what I wanted. The name, Toilet Paper Entrepreneur, was something I never expected… it was actually a label that some college students named me after a speaking gig. They LOVED the bathroom analogy I use for entrepreneurship, and started calling me The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur. That is how the book name and the website all came about.
[Euvy] What was the major challenges you faced when you said you want to become an entrepreneur and was it what you expected?
[Mike] The biggest challenge is the internal battle. I happens to me regularly – I don’t think I am good enough, or persistent enough, or really can pull it off. The goal is to overcome that internal voice and keep pushing and pushing. Entrepreneurship is HARD. I mean F’ing HARD, and that is why most people don’t do it and many give up. The winners are simply the ones who are not quitters.
[Euvy] What is your views on the negative people who say you can’t become an entrepreneur and if it’s so easy why isn’t everyone else doing it?
[Mike] They are wrong, you can become an entrepreneur. They are also right, it is NOT easy. The doers are the ones who succeed. The complainers… well they just complain.
[Euvy] To the young entrepreneurs , what advice can you give to them?
[Mike] Start NOW! Every day you wait is another day too late. And it has been proven statistically that the earlier you start the more financially successful it is.

Mike with his Books
Favorite Quote?-If you think you can or can’t, either way you are right.
Best book for startup entrepreneurs?- Not bragging, not having an ego, just very confident – hands down, The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur.
Best advice you’ve been given?- Be yourself to your fullest!
[Euvy]Anything else you would like to share? Future plans?
[Mike] The future plans are to do anything and everything to support budding entrepreneurs. I simply want to position my business as the world’s best resource for first time entrepreneurs who are starting up without much cash and without many contacts… but have A LOT of passion and drive.
[Euvy]And Lastly , you are a millionaire and living the dream , Could you tell us how is living the dream like for you?
[Mike] The happy moments in life are never derived from money, it is truly an internal emotion that needs to be achieved regardless of how you measure your success. For me living the dream, is independent of the financial aspect… but is sure doesn’t hurt. But here is the greatest irony, to achieve financial success you need to get happy FIRST. You see, when you are happy, it plays out throughout your business and more customers want to buy from you and connect with you.
[Eu

Mike was nice enough to get me a signed copy of the toilet paper entrepreneur. Thanks alot Mike
Thanks Euvy very interesting interview the parts that resonate with me the most is where he talks about survival vs. passion which is really helpful coz we all get lost sometimes in survival mode which doesn’t breed results and also the importance of vision I think vision is by far the most important thing to focus on it is what keeps you going in times of turbulence again thanks for the interview Euvy…
Glad you like it Lwazi , I have alot more coming so stay tuned
I wondered where the name Toilet Paper Enterpreneur came from! I have seen the queries go through HARO’s list with your name on them. Now I know!
Thanks for your honest look at being an entrepreneur. You know, it is only other entrepreneurs that understand the work because others don’t get it and encourage you to quit before you really get started. The drive to go after the dreams and ideas swirling in your head don’t want to give up and go away though.
I loved this that Mike said,
“The happy moments in life are never derived from money, it is truly an internal emotion that needs to be achieved regardless of how you measure your success. For me living the dream, is independent of the financial aspect… but is sure doesn’t hurt. But here is the greatest irony, to achieve financial success you need to get happy FIRST. You see, when you are happy, it plays out throughout your business and more customers want to buy from you and connect with you.”
Now if only others would get that.
Keep the interviews a’comin’
