[Euveshan]First , Could you give us a brief history of your entrepreneurship ventures and your motives behind them?

Sure thing. I started selling at the age of 5, but it wasn’t until I was 9 years old when I started my first “official” business. It was a small printing company and simply consisted of using the software on my computer to print greeting cards, invitations, etc. My first order was for invitations for a party my parents were having and from there my customers consisted of family friends, relatives, and neighbors. My next business was when I was 12 when I sold Beanie Babies over the Internet. That business was quite profitable and when I was 15, I ran an online advertising network that had 200k customers. Before I turned 21, I had started 12 different businesses so you could say I was a bit addicted to the startup process: the idea to execution.

[Euveshan]At such a tender age of just 7 , what was going through your head when you started your first business? What did a young boy do with all that money?

When I was 7, I was still limited to just having a lemonade stand or selling vegetables door-to-door from my family’s farm. As for the money, one of the advantages of starting young is being able to save your money, have super low expenses (when you live with your parents!) and to start your retirement. You’re also able to take on a bit more risk as a young person and that can help you find success.

[Euveshan]I know entrepreneurship runs in your family but what made you decide that you wanted to go in that direction?

I learned at a very young age, from seeing my parents – but from also learning about Donald Trump, Michael Dell, Richard Branson, and Bill Gates, that I wanted to go into business and I wanted to be in control of my destiny. When you take the general population and separate the leaders from the followers – it usually consists of actors, singers, athletes, and business people. I knew I couldn’t sing, act, and certainly couldn’t play professional basketball so business was natural.

[Euveshan]You have been through many businesses , and all of them achieved great success , but what was key in your success in each business?

In my book You Call the Shots, I’ve written about the 19 “essential secrets to entrepreneurship.” I highly recommend it ,but the quick ingredients: Put Yourself Out There, Start Small, Don’t Take on Debt, Be Creative, Leverage Everything (media attention, partnerships, affiliate programs), and do more of what works and less of what doesn’t. Sounds easy – and it should. I’m no rocket scientist.

[Euveshan]For you what are three things an individual needs to do in order achieve success in any business?

Most importantly the passion, second: the willingness to put in the hard work/time, and third: the idea. Plenty of dumb ideas are successful – and profitable – so that’s why the specific idea is less important than the first two.

[Euveshan]One of my favorite quotes is ” The higher the mountain is that you have to climb, the better the view when you get to the top” , What are your views on this quote and how much hard work have you put in to get where you are? How big of a role does it play in achieving success?

Because I’m young, I think a lot of people hear my story and think it was an overnight success. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I started small and built everything over time. I’m 24 now so it’s been 15 years since I started. Another quote I’ll share is “Make your future bigger than your past.” This is especially important to me.

[Euveshan]What are some of the challenges you dealt with being a young entrepreneur , and how did people treat you with regards to being their boss at such a young age?

I think the internet puts everyone on an equal playing field. So I never had the problem of not being taken seriously and it also allowed me to set my own hours, start with very little capital, and reach a global pool of prospective customers. The internet is the solution for the young entrepreneur.
[Euveshan]That is some golden advice right there , if anyone is interested in starting their own blog I suggest you go to the

[Euveshan]Did any of your businesses suffer failure and how did you rise above it and pull yourself up? What lessons did you learn?

That depends on who you’re asking. I might have had higher hopes for a couple of my businesses, but someone else might say “well hey, they were profitable – so they were still successful.” Success vs failure is really just perspective.

[Euveshan]You are a role model to many , what piece of advice do you want to give to the people out there starting or wanting to start their own business?

Thank you, that’s very flattering. You can read You Call the Shots and share it with friends – I wrote it to share everything I learned along the way, hoping it’ll help more entrepreneurs (of all ages) get started. The biggest piece of advice is to Put Yourself Out There and to just get started. You’ll make mistakes, but there’s never going to be a better time than now.
